I bought the Saitek ST290 at Wal-Mart about three years ago for $30. Since then, it has been pounded daily by both Mechwarrior and a multitude of different flight sims. It has probably endured at least 500 hours of pretty rough usage, and the buttons all still work and the axies (?) are still pretty accurate, with very little twitch or numbness.

Really, could you possibly ask for more for $30? I'm going to order another one.

Here's the deal this a cheap functional joystick with very few buttons. That means that if you're playing any Sim style games (Mechwarrior, Freespace, flight sim, ect), You've got a joystick to fly with, but that doesn't mean you're going to be using it for more than that, all of the wrest of controls are still on your keyboard The throttle is a letdown, it's sturdy, but being on the rear in the center sucks, the joystick doesn't seem like it would hold up for super long, I bought it to bide time until I could get a Steel Battalion controller and a Xbox to USB converter, If you're not a hardcore Sim fan this joystick is worth the money, anyone looking to get more function should look elsewhere. That being said the rudder twist is fairly sensitive and takes alittle getting used to, but once you do it's actually the most pleasant thing about the joystick.

This is my second Saitek Joystick, and I have enjoyed using both. The Evo

is very ergonomically adjustable, and has lots of programable features. I

bought one that didn't come with a cd-rom, so had to do some downloading.

I wasn't very impressed with the speed or usefullness of Saitek's response, but eventually got the programming done. The item is a joy to

use, very responsive and precise, I like it.

The ergonomics need improvement, but everything functions properly. I loved my MS Sidewinder 3D Pro but many new PCs obsoleted the 15-pin joystick port, so I had to buy a USB joystick. The Saitek had the same "swivel" rudder control that I loved on the Sidewinder. The RAH-66 Comanche was reported to have the same type of rudder control before DoD axed the program, so apparently the higher-ups liked the control interface as well.

I'm certainly no expert or "gamer" but I've used a few joysticks in my day. WWhat I love about this model is it's flexibilty and adjustability. I have a neurological disorder and I'm gradually losing the use of my right arm and hand (and of course I'm right handed). I bought some games for therapy (thats what I told my wife and I'm sticking to it...LOL). I needed a joystick which I could switch between right and left handed depending on how I was doing that particular day. Plus this model has adjustments for the tilt and angle of the head and buttons which makes it really fit well. The throttle is centrally located and the buttons on the base are duplicated on each side to fully complete it's flexibility and ambidextrousness. The force feedback is new to me, but is a really cool option. All-in-all, this is an excellent joystick and an excellent value.

Although there are many options for controlling your flight sim aircraft, this joystick has been a very good choice (for me) especially considering the price (I got mine for less than $50 from Amazon - new). There are more expensive options with more bells and whistles but it all depends on what your willing to spend.

Set-up was straight-forward however I don't like the fact that set-up includes drivers for a mouse and keyboard.

The large null zone in the center - I have not experienced at all. In fact - at least in Flight Sim X the most subtle movements are noticeable in most aircraft. There are some user designed aircraft that the stick is finicky with especially the rudder - so that could be a software quirk. Which also brings up a the point that this stick would definitely benefit from having on board trim controls.

It seems that it really depends which game you're playing as to how much feedback you get. I've noticed the most response in FSX (look out when you crash)! I have yet to try it on X-Plane 9 but I've noticed that its very slight on IL2 right out of the box. I've also noticed that I lose FF in IL2 at times and don't know if its the stick or the software. But it seems the key is to at least have the settings properly adjusted for every game.

Being an actual pilot, the feedback where flaps and gear being deployed as well as air turbulance and touch-downs on landing all work well in FSX and are all very much appreciated. In an actual aircraft scenario, when you raise the flaps, the plane feels as though its sinking slightly and that is the feeling I get with this stick running FSX. I can also feel the difference between the weight of a Cessna and the weight of a P51 when pulling back or otherwise controlling the stick - again with hardly no dead zone at all - very responsive. I have several aircraft models that work extremely well in FSX and I've also downloaded a bunch of junk. The necessary files on some of the user designed aircraft are just not there and it seems that also includes the support for proper force feedback.

Take all these reviews for what they're worth and remember that users really should check their software settings for the joystick and the simulators before they submit their reviews.

This speaker works fantastically with my MacBook. The MacBook speakers with the volume level at its max produce the the same audio as these speakers turned down low. And the quality of sound remains solid at all the volume levels but the very highest, where I noticed some static, though the only reason I turned it up that high wasas a test. I've never needed to turn it up past mid-way, which is loud enough to fill a room. In fact, sitting by the computer I don't turn them up past the first few levels. They're loud little speakers. I thought it might annoy me to have just one speaker, but you can angle it to most positions to get the almost-feel of two speakers on both sides. I've been using the speaker for a few weeks, not just for travel but for everyday video/audio content because I rarely sit with my laptop at my desk to plug it in to my main system. The first time you plug the speaker in, you have go into the operating system's settings and change the audio to recognize the speaker. But after that it automatically detects if you have the speaker plugged in, and will play through the speaker (and if it's not plugged in, it plays through the computers speakers). I don't usually write Amazon reviews, but I was skeptical of buying these speakers after reading some of the reviews on here, and in my experience they are incredibly easy to use and transport, and the best quality one could need from such a small speaker.

Good, Not Great, Sound.

I just got these for my new Dell Studio laptop. Sound quality is significantly better than the built-in speakers but still not up to home listening or audiophile standards. With a lot of bootleg recordings of varying quality, I found these speakers made unlistenable music listenable again, but still not great. Since I really needed something portable, I'm still satisfied but wouldn't recommend them as a home stereo option. For high-quality sound you'll still need powered desktop speakers. These speakers did really boost the volume though, which could come in handy for watching movies while traveling. Worth $40-$50 only because portability was the critical factor for me. Otherwise, you can probably get better sound from a pair of low-cost desktop speakers.

My Company manufacturers the real F-16 Fighter Stick with the accompanying fly-by-wire stick force sensor. This stick is configured pretty much like the real thing; buttons and switch location are just as they are on the real F-16 Fighter Stick. All in all, it performs very solidly and is very accurate. Perfect for a fighter stick sim; only drawback is that you must also purchase the rudder peddles as there is no rotational axis that ops for a rudder; yes you can program rudder on the keyboard, however, it's pretty much of an on-off switch that provides little real control.

I just ordered a new one of these today, I've been waiting for several years to get a new one - trying to convince my wife I needed it.

This is the best joystick i've ever had, my old one which I bought in the mid-90s finally died on me a couple of years ago. It wasn't the hours and hours of gaming which killed it, it was the trip from New Zealand to the US, where the movers didn't have it sitting upright, but rather, jammed down on the one of the axis for 2 months in transit. Argh! It stopped centering and made flying impossible.

Still, for about 13 years this joystick took every bit of punishment i gave it. I used it for racing games, motorcycle games and of course numerous flight simulators, such as Falcon 4.0 Allied Force. The beast never missed a beat, every button still clicks like it's brand new.

Thus when it came to finally retire the old one I had no hesitation in getting the latest USB based version...I can't recommend it enough.

This controller has some really good...assignable options like ...multiple hat switches and buttons and a mode selector...

But you can reach up to the controls only if ur body size was 6.5 feet minimum and u have hands to match...These are huuuuge.....its not possible to keep ur thumb in the angle for the lower hat switch and then just flick up to the pov hat switch...

you will literally have to raise ur elbow and whole arm to reach it.

and I am not a small person Im 6 foot.

The most disappointing aspect was the trim control wheels.

They are infact not controllers that you can just assign trim axises to...

but a kind of caliberation mechanism for the stick itself...

so when u use the elevator trim axis it modifies your joystick axis ever so slightly to have a upward or downward tendency....this really sucks in game as its very non intuitive and I found them very very difficult to control...kind of sad assuming I bought these transported all the way to India only because of the trim wheels :(.

But having said that I must also say the joystick axis are very sensitive and nice....and having a seperate pivot for pitch and roll allows for very precise input..

and they're built like beasts as well...very very tough...

wish they would make one in a slightly smaller size as well...:(

I've had a gameport CH HOTAS with same 'stick, Prothrottle and rudder pedals for years and it was easy to map the buttons and the devices are still going strong after years of yankin' and bankin' in Red Baron3d (by comparison I broke two Logitech sticks in a row before I found CH products. They worked great but didn't hold up like the Fighterstick rig). I was forced into USB by the march of technology and a new flight sim called OFF that runs on XP. I haven't had time to dope out the mapping software yet but the stick itself is exactly like my beloved analog one, so I'm sure I'll love it. LE~Heureux

I travel a lot and like to play music in my hotel room through my laptop but wanted to get something with more juice than the speakers built into my laptop. I was extremely disappointed when I first heard these speakers. They were so weak and distorted I switched back to my Laptops speakers after just a couple minutes of the weak, fuzzy distorted sound they made. They were clearly weaker than my laptops built-in speakers, which are not that great.

I recommend these only if your current laptop does not have its own speakers, otherwise it's basically the same or worse for playing music as standard built-in laptop speakers.

This is a well designed (except for on small thing - see below) little gadget/product/speaker. It works exactly as advertised. Not meant to be mini Bose speakers. They are just much better versions of laptop internal speakers that can be pointed in any direction rather than the ones in the laptop that are weak and lame and point straight up instead of at the listener usually. Just plug and play. I was looking for a pair of mini stand-alone speakers for a computer that I use for youtube and instructional video type stuff where I don't need great stereo audio but the internal speakers just aren't good enough. This is where these fit it. They take up no actual desk space and are much louder than the internals and quality is good too. I ordered another one and I wouldn't hesitate to give these as gifts. My one tiny con is that it doesn't have an on/off or volume control but they work off of the same controls as the internals so wtf.

I bought one of these b-flex speakers based to some degree on reviews I saw here on Amazon. I liked it so much I bought 2 more for my wife and son. One of the 3 had some static. With no hesitation whatsoever the company sent me a replacement at no cost. The replacement came today and it works like a charm . I cannot recall a company with a better attitude and more consideration for the customer. These speakers do a good job of boosting the volume and improve sound quality, but the sound quality is still not great. These speakers are okay if you need something totally portable to improve sound quality and boost the volume. If you want your laptop PC to double as a serious entertainment center, however, you still need to get some desk or tabletop speakers. Worth buying if you really need the portability and don't expect great things, otherwise just buy a set of desktop speakers.

I take my fun very seriously so when it came time to evaluate the latest crop of game controllers on the market, I did a lot of web research first. After exhausting the resources of every review site I could find, I ended up buying the Logitech Wingman Extreme Gamepad. Most sites seemed to like it so the next step was to try this "G-Force Tilt" gizmo for myself.

Even at the very end of its wire, there is thoughtful design - you can use it in either the USB or sound card game port thanks to the included USB/gameport adapter. Software installation is as simple as it gets. After a quick reboot, I was prompted to plug in the gamepad. It was instantly recognized by Windows 98 and I was soon witnessing first-hand the fluid tilt mechanism behaving just like a joystick in the properties window. You simply hold the pad in your hands and tilt it left, right, forward or back to achieve analog movement along the X and Y axis. In this mode, the gamepad's D-pad works like an 8 position "hat" switch - very useful in flight (and some driving) sims. If you prefer it to act like a regular digital gamepad, you simply deactivate it by pressing the "sensor" button. A little top-mounted light turns from green to red and the tilt mechanism is off - giving you accurate and quick digital X/Y axis control with the D-pad.

This tilt mechanism is more than mere novelty. It feels like you're operating an invisible joystick - and it's extremely easy and intuitive to use in driving and flight simulations! When you're flying a plane and you want to pull up, what's more natural than tilting your gamepad's nose up? You get the feeling that you're holding a model of your plane in your hands and that it obeys and copies every move you make with it. Driving is no different - you feel like you're holding a free-floating steering wheel in your hands. If you want, you can assign gas to the "nose down" and brake to the "nose up" movement or, to either of its TEN buttons (including two triggers). The included software allows you to configure button controls for any of your installed games - including the abilty to "map" keyboard commands (or strings of keyboard commands) to each of the 10 buttons and D-pad. Once saved, your game "profile" will automatically load onto the gamepad when you launch the specific game it's set for. This is something that other game controller manufacturers (Microsoft, for one) can't do - they force you to first open their profile software and manually choose which game you're about to play to load the profile BEFORE you start that particular game. With Logitech's software, it's a no-brainer. No profiles to manually load or unload.

The controller is exceptionally light (much lighter and more streamlined than the Gravis Xterminator it replaced in my home) and very comfortable to hold. All buttons are within easy reach of my thumbs (with my average-to-small sized hands) and the triggers underneath are naturally where my index fingers would want them. Some review sites out there say it took them a while to get used to the tilt feature and gave it lower marks for that reason - but even my two kids (11 and 7 years old) got the hang of driving Need for Speed III with this thing almost instantly. When I showed them how to deactivate the tilt so they could use it as a regular gamepad, they immediately wanted the tilt re-engaged - it's that much more fun! Banking and moving the controller to get your game character (or car or plane) to move is not only natural (ever watch someone using a regular controller and see them lean into a turn?) but adds that much more of an immersive quality to any game. You can even switch the tilt feature on and off in the middle of game play! It really feels like you're the one doing the controlling now - not D-pad or a joystick.

I highly recommend this gamepad to anyone who plays a variety of game styles on their PC. While a dedicated joystick might give you a couple more options (like analog rudder and throttle controls), this thing's G-Force Tilt mechanism will fly just fine. While a steering wheel and pedal set might duplicate the driving experience better, tilting your way through turns with this pad is surely the next best thing. And when it comes to sports and action games where quick, digital-quality input is required to survive, all you have to do is push the "sensor" button to deactivate the tilt behavior and you've got yourself a high-quality digital gamepad with 10 programmable, easy-to-reach buttons. The $40 I paid for it was money well spent. To make the deal even sweeter, I found it bundled with a full version of Tony Hawk 2 - easily worth almost $40 by itself! My kids now have a gamepad for their games and I (thanks to the tilt feature) have a built-in, invisible joystick with plenty of buttons plus a hat switch for my games : )

I bought this same flight force stick from eBay, but its the same thing. I didn't know if it would work correctly. I bought it for my cousin as a gift. As soon as I recieved it, we tried it out and worked just like it should. You plug it into the USB slot on your PS2 and it works fine.

Blame the game developers for not programming their games to use the joystick. I have a lot of fun with Airforce Delta Strike using the stick, and I find it tragic that no other PS2 flight sim supports it... or any flight stick for that matter. I can't guess as to why, but I suppose all my other flight sims will be played on a PC (anybody want a copy of Ace Combat 4?). At least I know that no one will be trying to get this stick from me, since it's pretty difficult to find the only game you can play with it... and no, I won't be parting with mine!

I am relatively new to the world of gaming, whether it be regular video games or computer based. I use sophisticated computers on a daily basis, but only came into the video gaming arena since my young children have become interested. I purchased not one, but two Sony Playstation 2's for the kids (well, actually one was for me downstairs on the big screen TV). I was impressed by the technology, the graphics and the possibilities of hours of enjoyment for my kids and myself. We developed an interest in trying flight simulations, so I felt, based on reviews and information contained in periodicals, magazines and on-line, that a joystick with almost real-to-life features would add to the enjoyment of flight/combat simulation, both for kids and adults.

Looking through different media to make a selection, I noticed the reviews and descriptions of Logitech products. I was immediately hooked - LOGITECH, a well known, reputable, quality product producing corporation, who's products I have used over the years and thoroughly enjoyed. I continued to research the joysticks and discovered that they provide a large line of similar products for computer and Sony Playstation 2 gaming. I made my first purchase of the Logitech "Flight Force, Force Feedback Joystick" for PLAYSTATION 2, on-line with Best Buy (that was the only place I could originally find it, since independent gaming stores and the Best Buy location did not stock it.)

When I finally received the Logitech joystick, it looked impressive, seemed well made/robust, with all the bells and whistles, but that was all. I followed the instructions, plugged it into not one, but both of my Playstation 2's, using both flight simulation games/programs and others, with NO response.

After numerous tries, I called Logitec Techinical Support. The tech immediately stated, after understanding that the unit purchased was for Playstation 2 and not computer, that I should return the joystick for a refund or replacement because it was "apparently defective" since there was no response in the games while using the unit. The joystick was returned, at which point I made the assumption that the "defective" unit I received was just a fluke. Before I decided to buy another Logitech joystick, I re-read all the material I used for the original research, found additional information, and learned that the unit would work with games that "support(ed) Flight Force Feedback" through the Sony Playstation 2.

Retailers, the Logitech guy, and game store personnel told me that the unit should work fine, that it was one of the "best" in the field, and that it would operate with any or most games used on Sony Playstation 2 (they may have been referring to the Logitech Flight Force 3D units for computers). The box of the original unit I received said "for Playstation 2".

So, I bought another one on-line, but this time through Amazon.com. When it arrived the same thing happened (or should I say, nothing happened as before). I called Logitech again, spoke to a different technical person, who demanded that I provide her with the previous investigation/case number (I was not provided one during the previous call). She took all my "personal history" before realizing that there was no information pertaining to my original complaint in her computer system. She then went on to suggest that I was mistaken about the type of unit, what gear it was compatible with and the location of the part number. After she realized that she did not know what to do for me, she put me on hold - for a long time, I might add. When she returned, she began to argue and insist that the unit in question was for computer, not Playstation 2. Eventually, she realized her error (did not admit it), put me on hold again, and upon her return, essentially stated that the unit would not work with the Playstation 2 or ANY program or game, save one, although SHE DID NOT KNOW WHAT IT WAS. She put me on hold again, and upon her return, was unable to give me the name of a SINGLE game with which the unit would work (this after "polling" other employees in her immediate area).

I did some additional research after that useless telephone call to Logitech and discovered that the one game it will work with is "Airforce Delta Strike" by Konami. Most, if not all reviews of that game indicate that it is a piece of junk and a waste of money. That means that the Logitech joystick to which I am referring works only on ONE game, and it SUCKS. Why even buy this piece of crap? I got the impression that Logitech personnel (and the corporation) are resting on their laurels and feel that they can pass off junk to the consumer based on their previous reputation. They come off as being smug and treat the consumer as if he is ignorant and has no recourse. Well, just wait - eventually, they will go the way of other companies that adopt this attitude.

If it were not for the fact that Amazon.com is a reputable company and has a reasonable return policy, I would be very upset. Actually, I still believe that Logitech produces quality products in other areas, and I would still buy some/other products from their company, but the "bait and switch" thing really burns me up. They intentionally do not STRONGLY inform the customer that this product only works on ONE GAME, and the game itself is a bad and unsatisfying product. Why would they make a product that only works with one game? It would make more sense if it worked with other Playstation 2 games, or could be used with computers and their games. Guess what: It IS NOT compatible with computer platforms or programs!

I sincerely hope that anyone who wants to play flight simulations on a Playstation 2 system does not get caught-up in this revolving waste of time. Consumer - Be aware!

Although I ultimately hated it, I will say that this style of controller is quite a bit more usable than the standard PS2 dual shock for flying. You get stable set-and-forget throttle control, and one hand controls all 3 axes of motion. But it's plug and *almost* play -- it is severely out of calibration by default and requires recalibration every time you power cycle the game machine. After just a few hours of play the cheap internal trimpots got tired and I started getting unsmooth/erratic motion over the full range, making calibration a frustrating and finally impossible task. Also the stick has a huge amount of play that isn't helped a lot with center position calibration. For the price I didn't expect a lot but the unsmooth motion was a big disappointment. Bottom line, I will not be wasting my time on a flight stick from this price/quality level in the future!

Very impressed with this joystick. Takes a little while to get comfortable with but once you get used to it you'll love it. Only major complaint is there are no detailed instructions on how to use ALL of the joysticks features, nor a tutorial. I have not found anything like this as of yet. Also the buttons are arranged in such a manner that it can be difficult while in a dogfight to hit the button you want. It's easy to hit every other button but the one you actually want to press.

The rudder twist feature was something I had not experienced before and found it difficult to work with at first. Now that I have mastered it I would say your better off having it than not.

Overall very happy with this joystick. Lack of force feedback is probably a good thing. Force feedback makes you feel more like your in the game with the exception that you have a more difficult time aiming at your target. (I have had a Logitech Wingman Force for nearly a decade)

"The Best Looking Thing I ever hated" 2009-10-03

I have a love/hate relationship with Saitek - their products, when they work, are good, but when they don't expect lousy support. Actually, I take that back - we've moved into a hate/hate more relationship.

This expensive piece of garbage doesn't work. The software provided installs the driver, and the programming software provided allows you to program your control. Except, it doesn't - the programming software opens .dat files, which are the files that define the functions of your joysticks functions. Or do they? The new PRO version uses a file called .pr0. Apparently, the significantly cheaper NON-PRO version uses .dat files. Oh goody, punish me for spending more.

The disk that came it the package, clearly labeled Saitek x52 PRO, doesn't let me edit .pr0 files, only .dat files. And the Saitek website offers nothing in the way of pre-configured drivers - no premade profiles, so you're gonna have to program it yourself. So today, I spent the day reading manuals, cursing, searching the web for answers, cursing some more, attempting to get support from Saitek, cursing. I'm not a programmer, and they haven't provided me the tools to program even if I was so inclined. I just want to fly a (even more cursing) flight sim. Like I have been doing for the past several years, you horrible cursewords, you.

But I should have known better - when I bought an X36 from them years ago (the box clearly said "for PC & MAC) and I couldn't get it to work with a Mac, the helpful support guy at Saitek snidely told me to buy a PC (I told him where to go and what to do when he got there). In the 10 years after that incident, I'm afraid support hasn't gotten any better - this thing doesn't work right out of the box. What really stings me is that I've had bad experiences with Saitek before and I bought this thing anyway. Never again - I'm returning this, thought resisting the urge to run it over with my car is very difficult.

Other companies make joysticks - I would strongly (ENTHUSIASTICALLY) recommend you see what other companies are offering.

I will say one thing, after placing my order for this item, i couldn't wait to get it. I have had many other joysticks in the past, from Logitech to Thrust Master, and this Saitek X52 PRO, is AWESOME!!! I will say this though, the joystick it self is kinda big, so it took me some time to get use to it.. but now that i am use to it.. SWEET!!! button are well placed, and quite a bit of buttons to program, so i hardly even touch my keyboard when playing X-Plane 9 or any other flight simulation game.

If you have had bad luck with many other joysticks, I give this one a 5 star, definitely recommend this one.

Shipping from Amazon, was awesome, that was very quick, order it on Friday got it on Tuesday.. no complaints there, awesome service.

Oh speaking of which, if you like flight simulation games, get X-Plane 9, the graphics is WICKED!!! i am not kidding you, real-time weather which gets downloaded from the net into the game, AWESOME.

Also, for me, when playing X-Plane, i did not install the software for Saitek, cause the software disable the some of the button in the game, so to have all the buttons available to you when playing X-Plane 9, just let Windows Vista use the default drivers and that's it, also if you update to the latest drivers it will also disable those buttons, kinda sucks cause it's always good to have the latest drivers. But if you are like me, don't update the drivers, just ignore them.

I bought this product from another seller, its ver confortable, easy to install and use, it's just like a PS2 controller so if you like those you will like this one, and works with most of the games out there. I can say though that it doesn't work at 100%, the vibration feedback doesn't work on most of the new games, especially those games that say "games for windows" that hace the xbox controller configuration by default, also you can get either the left or right analog stick to be inverted i.e. moving to right will move camera up and left will move the camera down, I tried correcting the problem with the Profiler software that comes with it but no luck. The only game that worked 100% for me was Prototype(which recognized the gamepad as Logitech Rumblepad 2). I tried contacting Logitech but they dont have an answer for this. At the end I had to purchase an Xbox 360 that works perfect with those games.

So in few words, the controller is good but lacks of support of newly released games.

I just recently bought this controller for all my pc-based console-ported games, and I have to say that it is, in fact, an excellent buy for the dollar amount; it's not fancy, it doesn't have lights, and it doesn't have a fan built into it: but that's the beauty of it. Well, buyer beware. I bought this item hoping the lap attachment included with it would be compatible with my recently purchased Logitech Driving Force GT driving wheel. It appeared as if the lap attachment included was the same one being sold everywhere else. Appearances can be deceiving.

So I bought this for two reasons: #1- the lap attachments were out-of-stock from every retailer on the internet (the few that did have it were charging exorbitant prices and their websites looked like scams) and #2 it had a price tag of 8 bucks.

Well unfortunately for me, the notches on the lap attachment included in the speed force accessory pack are too close together to be used with my DF GT Driving Wheel. This is my fault, and I took full responsibility ( I left good feedback for the seller- not their fault).

This is the add on for the Logitech wheel and includes the pedals(2) and a lap attachment that really helps anchor the wheel. I don't have a table/chair that I can clamp the wheel to so this was nice. Though in the excitement of great games we started using a bungee cord to attach it firmly around our legs. The pedals have a nice realistic feel and respond great in the games. Gamecube games that are a blast to play with the wheel are Need for Speed II, Dakar, and Burnout 2. I've also heard that the Nascar is great. Really makes the games more realistic than ever. A little creativity and someone could build a nice comfortable cockpit with the wheel and these pedals.

Purchased this AV8R-02 saitek for Xbox on Amazon. Will give it one more try and if it won't work like advertized it is headed for the dumpster.

I'm useing the stick with an Xbox 360 and it is actually more sensitive and harder to control than my wireless game pad was.

The skimpy instructions tell you to set the the mode to the M2 setting for Blazing Angels 1 and II. Yet one has to constantly alternate from mode M2 to mode M1 and back again simply to keep playing the game.

The sensitivity of this joystick is not at all programmable as far as I can see.

Further, I will admit that I am not an expert on the stick's functions and they tell you absolutely nothing about what "LB, LSB, RSB and RB" are supposed to do and

there is also nothing on the Saitek website that will tell you.

Finally, the FAQ on their site has nothing...that's right, nothing on the AV8R-02 for Xbox...check it out!

My opinion: Microsoft should find another manufacturer to produce a compatable controller that really works because this one absolutly sucks!

This is my third Saitek controller and the first two worked fine. If this AV8R-02 Xbox version is typical of this company's future products I will avoid them like a plague.

I've used several joysticks and the CH yoke & pedals setup. I was a little concerned about possible latency (slow response) of this wireless model. I was pleasantly surprised when it showed no signs of being a slow responder. It is very much as advertised and a real joy to use because it does not have a cord. Of course, don't take it out of the box and try to do a take-off and landing immediately. Attend flight school 101 and read all direction thoroughly. You'll be glad you did and have a much more enjoyable flight experience.

I have two Joysticks at home, Saitek Cyborg 3D stick and Wingman Interceptor. I like the Interceptor better because in flight simulators its better. Yet not in civil simulations (like Flight simulator 2000) its better in military simulations (like USAF or Flancer 2.0). The only bad things is that twist handle isn't availible and it only fits for right handed people. It could also be confusing with multiple switches but nothing is perfect.

i've tried a couple of things things before and Logitech proves, yet again, that they are the king of pointing devices. it's so much easier to setup, fits in your hands better, the buttons are better laid out and easier to configure. each button is clearly identified in the configuration window with an arrow; absolutely no guesswork involved. everything is customizable, including the amount of force the device gives back for the feedback. i'd give microsoft a C+ for their device while logitech clearly gets an A+.

Having tried a few force feedback sticks, there is absolutely no doubt doubt in my mind that this as the pick of the crop. The steel cable design means every little movement is transmitted to your hand with precision, and the effect strength can be set fron subtle to wrist jarring. The lack of a twist action may upset flight-sim fans wanting easy rudder control, and there is no doubt that while incredibly stable, this stick is huge and needs some serious desk space, but if you've got the room it's worth it. The motors are almost silent, and with no cooling fan internally the stick is very refined and quiet until the action starts. The one weakness in my view in the omission of an on/off switch. Connecting via either USB or a free com port (the cable has bothe connectors on the end) it is easily set up ready for action. A real tooth rattling Goliath.

Logitech Is a company that seems to have killed off most if not all of its competitors in terms of wheels, since Microsoft decided to stop production of its sidewinder steering wheel line. But the fact is, this wheel, while very good is not their best. The main reason for this is its age. The Logitech WingMan Formula Force GP Wheel, try say that fast 5 times, Is ,in computer years, about as up to date as your gand fathers old 1975 AMC Pacer. So why is this such a big deal? Well, there were a few problems, in terms of quality and functionality, that would need to be corrected. These corrections do not appear on this wheel.

To start with, the wheel it self feels light and plastic. It is easy to grip and feels comfortable, but it also feels like it could break if moved to suddenly. The wheel does give good feed back and seems to react to every little effect right down to hitting little rocks in the rode.

The pedals are plastic and seem a little to easy to break! Jamming on the gas too hard a the wrong moment will cause it to crack. Holding it down with force can also cause this to happen. Another major issue that affects these pedals is the phone line jack type connector that connects and locks the wire in to the wheel it self. It is easy to break and does its job of holding the wire in place to well. I had the misfortune of having this wire fall on the gas pedal just before I slammed down the gas, this, needles to say, ripped wire out of the phone line jack connector rendering the pedals useless. And dont think you can just run down to your local electronic store and replace it, the connector is smaller then a standard phone connecter and dose not seem to be available anyware. I have had to replace several of these wheels because of the pedals failing in one way or another.

This wheel also lack something that was very highly noted in its early days, A shifter. The only way to shift gears is to use the small paddles on the backs of the left and right spokes. The paddles really dont give that good a sense of feed back.

For the price you pay, you get an ok wheel, but why would one by this wheel when the much improved MOMO wheel also from Logitech, which dose have a shifter, can be found for not much more.

I used a Wingman Formula Force for about 4 years, and it was a superb wheel that excelled in every game I used it with. These included the Need for Speed series (particularly Porsche Unleahsed) and the Colin McRae Rally series. When the potentiometers in the pedals began to behave erratically causing sudden and unpredictable changes in the amount of throttle pedal that the wheel would indicate, I attempted to replace it.

Unfortunately, the Formula Force is no longer available, being replaced instead by the Formula Force GP. The Formula Force GP (which was shipped to me by mistake by a vendor claiming to sell the original Formula Force) is a much cheaper wheel, and it shows in every aspect of its performance.

For one, the wheel uses a gear driven system instead of a cable driven system, and this limits the responsiveness of the wheel when continuously varying biasing force is needed, for instance, when the force on the wheel is intended to communicate the slip angle of the front wheels.

In addition, the gear-driven system produces a lot of inertia in the wheel and that inertia interferes with the feedback coming through the wheel. It also causes the wheel to have a perceived resisting feedback, even when the wheel should not be resisting your motion.

The pedals are adequate and have a good, progressive response, but they lack any grip surface on the bottom, or sufficient space on the side to use your left foot to brace the base of the pedals in position (both features on the original Formula Force). If you are using them on a surface other than carpet, they will tend to slip away from you.

The wheel provides two "paddles" and four buttons, the same as the previous model Formula Force, but the "paddles" are actually small buttons on the back of the wheel that are much harder to reach when quick reflexes are desired, or if you are attempting to operate the paddles while the wheel is turned significantly. Also, two of the four buttons are positioned at an angle that is awkward for your thumbs to reach.

In short, this is a passable wheel and pedal set, and for the money, may not be a bad choice. However, compared to the original Formula Force wheel from Logitech which it replaces, this wheel is a serious disappointment. If you can find an original Formula Force, or a Formula Force Momo from Logitech, they are better constructed and better performing products.

When there is sound for these speakers to play, its fine and sounds quite nice. However, regardless of the volume setting, there is a residual hum which only stops when you turn off the power. It is very noticable and very very annoying.

Unless you are in an environment where there is a lot of background noise, you will be driven you to return them. Even though these are approx $10 in price, it is still not worth it.

Don't buy them, you will be wasting your money.

I bought this controller so i would be able to play all my SNES/N64 ROMS on my laptop and it works just fine. It gets the job done. but the reason i gave it 4 stars is because the D-pad is painful to use sometimes, it has very sharp edges that rub your thumb raw. Forward makes you run backward. I even took the stupid piece of junk apart to try to reverse the toggle stick. I think I'm just going to smash it to bits with a hammer, still debating though. "Good choice for PC but abandoned by most PS3 developers" 2009-10-26

Formula 1 2007 for PS3, even with its limited steering lock and 720p resolution, is a ton of fun with this wheel and the main reason I bought the G25. This is a very nice wheel and way better than the XBox 360 wheel (the G25 wheel shaft does not wobble), but unless you play PC games, SAVE YOUR MONEY because XBox 360 will not support the G25 and most PS3 game developers are ignoring the G25. The G25 has 900 degrees of steering lock, which is supported by only a handfull of PS3 games including: Codemaster's "GRID" for PS3 and Gran Turismo HD (obsolete), Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (not mentioned in the manual, so I don't know if it really works), Midnight Club Los Angeles (haven't played it), Need for Speed: Undercover and Need for Speed: Shift. Many of the Electronic Arts games for PS3 also support the 6-speed shifter, and force feedback, but I don't think that any of these games are rendered at a resolution higher than 720p while their counterparts on the XBox 360 are sporting 1080i and 1080p (apparently Sony has yet to grow a spine.) The force-feedback is VERY strong, but there's no rumble effect and the 6-speed shifter is junk because it does not sense the position of the shifter knob (there is only a button at the far end of each of the 6 shifter positions) so you can put it into gear, but if you don't hit the button at the back of the slot, the game doesn't know that you shifted. Only one game I've tried so far (Need for Speed: Shift) actually makes use of the clutch pedal. There are many PS2 games that support the G25's 900-degree and force feedback functions (according to the Logitech website), but I haven't tried any of them. Perhaps Gran Turismo 5, if it's ever released, will make full use of this wheel.

The multi-platform (PC, PS3, XBOX 360) Fanatec Porsche 911 Turbo S wheel is now in limited production and can force many games currently with limited steering lock into 540 or 900 degrees of steering lock. This means that like DIRT 2 will drive more like an off-road game and less like a Formula 1 game. If you're like me, and already bought a G25 and/or the XBox 360 wheels, don't dispair, you can always use them as spares when your buddies come over.

Let me get the flaws out of the way...

The shifter is well known for feeling flimsy, having unnecessary clicking noises, and failing to delivery like the wheel and pedals do. This is an important aspect of racing just like the other accessories are. The shifter needs much improvement!

The pedals COULD be stiffer and vary in pressure, but that is me nitpicking after many many hours. Additionally, the wheel grinds and is very noisy. Don't expect to play quietly while someone tries to sleep.

The good...

The wheel and pedals perform great on both the PS3 and computer. I play racing sims mostly and the G25 has managed to improve my lap times and more importantly my enjoyment of the games. The pedals stick to the carpet and don't move regardless of force applied. Shifter and wheel clamp to everything and don't budge. Response is very good and I don't notice any input delay. Force feedback in the wheel is strong and manages to vibrate my entire 100+ lb. racing cockpit!

The next iteration of the G25 - the G27 - is coming out soon. I imagine they'll improve on some of the flaws.

I am VERY happy that i bought this wheel instead of the others. the dual force feedback makes it feel like u are hitting every little bump. driving over cobblestone in grid is amazing and how fast the dff responds to the users hands. 900 degree turning radius, 6 speed shifter as well as paddle shifters. I bought this joy stick because I really liked its design and ergonomics. The installation was a snap and the profiler software it comes with is easily configurable. However, it became completely unplayable after a few minutes (I was playing Grand Theft Auto) because it's calibration messed up. Now, I know my way around computers, but there is nothing I could do to fix the calibration, aside from unplugging/re-plugging the damn joystick every few minutes (not acceptable). I tried the newest drivers/software, removing the profiler, doing manual re-calibration, but I never got it to work properly. If you search the net, you'll see that many people had this problem, but Logitech never formally responded to it (bad customer support from my point of view). I have Windows 2000 professional installed, so I don't know if this is OS specific problem (again based on my research it seems to happen on other platforms as well). My advice, stay away from this Joystick and get something better (I got a Saitek controller and it works great). Oh, and, of course, do your research before you buy.

This is hardly a "deluxe" model, but it's a good stick for under $20. Compared to joysticks costing $30 or more, the WingMan feels like it has too many loose-fitting parts, and the buttons are made from lightweight, cheesy-looking plastic. But it works just fine. This is one of the few sticks I've seen that doesn't squeak or creak; a sort of rubber collar at the base creates an odd but quiet sound. Also this stick doesn't have horizontal and vertical "grooves" -- it feels the same in all directions. I like the firmness of the throttle control which lets you power up your engines smoothly. The base is heavy and stays firmly on the desk. I use it with a Dell Inspiron 4000 running Win2000. Setup was painless -- I just plugged in and calibrated. Oddly, the Windows control panel calls the throttle control a "Z-axis" instead of a "slider." This might cause a problem if your game doesn't allow you to reassign this control.

But sometimes I get error messages from windows like "Device is malfunctioning, try unplugging it and replugging it in again" that doesn't work and I have to restart my pc. An outstanding flight stick. The ability to adjust the stick's length and fwd/backward slant is great. The buttons on the stick can also be positioned for the most comfortable position. All movements seem crisp and smooth. The Cyborg X has capabilities I haven't explored yet such as the ability to program the buttons. The only curiosity I've found is while flying jets on map CLEAN SWEEP in BF2 the #2 button does not always release bombs cleanly. Sometimes there is a lag between button press and bomb release and other times only one or two bombs out of five will release. But in all fairness I'm not sure that this isn't a function of the game rather than a stick problem. Works great in MS Flight Sim X.

Update: Problem with button#2 became worse and the button finally came apart from the flight stick. Replacement by Amazon was almost immediate. No hassle, no cost. Important note: The stick must be assembled by screwing on to the base. It can be overtightened which caused my POV button to function in only one direction. Loosening resolved the problem.

Shipping was great. I actually got it in exactly 48 hours via UPS.

Packaging:

When you first get the device, it will be easy to set up ( I won't spoil the assembly for you if you haven't seen it before ). I was really impressed with the packaging for starters.

Software:

I installed the drivers ; quick and easy. I didn't install anything additional but that's up to you. I'm using a iMac (2008) with windows vista ( not sure anymore what level ).

Hardware:

I use this stick with Flight Simulator X. At first the stick was uncomfortable for my hand.

I had to adjust it , which it then became a perfect fit. If you're worried about force feedback, don't. My logitech stick's FF motor died after maybe a year of use. The spring which hold it center and provides a force is good enough.

What I was most excited about but a tad bit disappointed by was the throttle ( more so with FS X than the stick it self ) . It's a dual throttle which can also become single throttle isn't able to control individual engines. They both control all engines whether or not you use one or both. There is also a button that will join the two throttles.

You also have lot of options when it comes to buttons. I actually have less use for my keyboard now that I can put those commands on the stick. There are 10 number keys, a "shift" key , a trigger and dual throttles. The book says you can assign them to commands such as the trim and different engines but you'll have to play around with that in the game you're using it with.

The base can be folded and be put behind your monitor if you have a flat screen LCD monitor to save space. The over all texture and stainless steal of the device is very smooth.

There is a light under the hat switch which can become distracting at times when you push the stick forward during flight. The light for some reason is very intense on that angle so don't look directly into it.

Another thing is when you're pushing the stick forward, the base lifts up. I personally do not mind when flying because the only time I'm really pushing the stick forward is when I'm landing. Even then, I don't even push that hard for the stick to really lift. I only notice that when I'm flying freehand. It might bother some but it's fine with me.

Final:

I would suggest this to anyone who is interested in an adjustable stick, great over all feel and style. Of course there are more advanced sticks around but this certainly is worth the buy for what it offers.

I was looking for a simple joystick to use with my WWII fighter pilot game and decided to purchase the Saitek ST90. The joystick arrived with no software whatsoever. I wasn't too put off because I knew I could probably download the necessary drivers from the Saitek Web site. The problem came when I ran the driver installer. When it was nearly finished it asked me to plug in the controller, even though the controller was plugged in. Unplugging and replugging in the controller didn't help. The "profiler" software installed, but only the profile editor would work, not the Profiler itself.

None of this would have mattered if it would have simply allowed me to play the game I bought it for. But after hours of configuring, uninstalling, reinstalling and general troubleshooting the best I could do was get the controller to pitch and dive. Left and right movements were non-existent. Not much help in a fighter plane.

The Saitek user forums didn't offer any help, and my email to Saitek tech support went unanswered.

Thinking it may have been an issue with my laptops Vista software I tried to install it on my desktop running XP Pro with the same dismal results.

Not only could I NOT recommend this joystick, I'm wondering how a company that sells something of this poor quality can still stay in business!

I've had this stick for maybe four years now. It can only work for the simplest games. For the few bucks not bad. If you want to do flight sims or the type of complicated games like WWiiOnline .. don't use this stick. I clamp my down to the table so it has some support. Otherwise you get a sore hand from having to hold it down.

Not a well designed stick. Spend a few more bucks on something in the $40-50 range. You'd end up paying more if you get this one.

I disagree with whatever most said except about how long this stick will last. If you know how to use it then it's fine...It uses software to set the springback action (main feature I love)...The only issue I found is that from a cold boot with usb 2.0 you must open game controllers and then go to settings and make sure spring action is checked and just ok out because it forgets setting on slider. As I said there is a slider that can adjust spring action which is great...I had no problem with dead spot. I have been using it for 6 years and love it but it usually has problems after 3 to 6 months (erratic motion)...and so I have to keep buying more..I do not use feedback feature. I absolutely love the thumb throttle, positioning of buttons and handle twist. I play Descent 3 Unreal Tournament, and Quake 3. Not good for pacman. You must use a very simple stick for pacman.

I've had several joysticks from various manufacturers over the past years...I'm 74 now...but this stick has been a joy to use and for the price can't be beat. I was utterly amazed with the difference force feedback makes and after practice am absolutely thrilled with this new aspect of flying combat missions. I have had this stick for over three months and have had no problems with the calibration or the feel or sensation in actual combat flight. For less than $11.00 in cost, this joystick in my opinion is a steal. I have several older and more pricely joysticks back in their boxes (I seldom throw anything away) and rarely will pull one of them out to try again. But I always return to the Wingman Force 3D for the actual combat feel. Other customers have complained about various aspects of calibration (centering, spring tension, etc.) but I have had no problems whatsoever with these. I do know that in flying actual combat missions the stick will react to hits from flak or other aircraft and will become hard to control...but this to me is what makes this stick so amazing. If the enemy hits my rudder or aileron it is wonderful to feel the affect and fight the stick to maintain control of the aircraft. If and when this joystick wears out I sincerely hope I can purchase another at the same price although I would honestly pay must more to get another...My only regret in reviewing this product is that I am only allowed to give it 5 stars. What an injustice! Final analyysis: I am a perfectionist and highly critical of purchased products by nature....hense the tag "Beleagured Bob" (see my other reviews). That tag doesn't apply to this product unless I'm in the process of being shot down by some hotshot enemy pilot. But that's realism and I thoroughly enjoy it!!!

Same problem as everyone else...too much play in the center right out of the box. The motors are weak and the software does not help the joysticks HUGE dead spot.

After a month of play, it was not usable anymore. Pull the joystick back and it thinks it's going foward. Even the new software Logitech put out didn't help...how about making it in the USA instead of China with it's very high tolerances?

I received this item through Amazon's vine program. At first I was very excited to hook it up and play some World of Warcraft using it to tailor all of my buttons and keep everything nice and streamlined.

It is a really great concept, and if I could just break out of my habits, it would have been a very welcome edition to my gaming table. The buttons are very ergonomical and comfortabel to rest my hand on, but the mere thought of playing my game a different way was too much to handle and I was unable to use this for very long.

The screen on top does a nice job of displying some minimal stats, but with everything displayed on the gaming screen, it was unnecessary and rarely caught a glimpse from me.

If I had to rate the product itself, and I do...I would gladly state that this keyboard edition is a good piece of equipment and would be perfect for someone who could tailor their gameplay to conform to it.

I use my G13 in a racing sim to adjust pit settings, etc and one problem is obvious. There's no tactile clue for the vital G11 key. I lost a couple places in one race when I was trying to get ready for a pit stop and got distracted trying to find the proper key so I could make adjustments. Now, I've attached a small piece of foam to that key with double-sided tape so my fingers can find the key without hunting or mistakes. Logitech could solve this with the usual indicators that are put on the F and J keys on regular keyboards. Whether you're playing and FPS or a racing game, there's no time to be hunting around for the right keys.

Ok...i was hopeing to replace my Belkin N52TE with this Beast but have seen that all the GLITZ! (LCD screen and various colors) and Glamour (Sexy Style) is over shadowed by the actual comfort and simplicity i look for in a Gamepad!

Comfort is not all that great...i feel the Thumb stick feels a little farther than it really needs to be (almost as if u need to bend your thumb in some weird way...maybe im a weirdo like my buddies say though)

and i wished that they had put some form of riser (like the f and j keys on your keyboard) on your wasd keys, instead of an index finger type indention so u could navigate a little better as to where you are on the gamepad keys.

I found that not being able to remove the hat (Thumb stick for my wasd keys) made me move in a diagonal direction far to easily...making me hit wall's instead of running through doorways (ouch).

So...for me it was a total miss...and now i got to pay for the return postage, =( sigh... but i trully have come to appreciate my N52 TE a heck of alot more due to the testing i have done with the G13. May not be as nice...but sure gets me in the top 3, on CofD 4... Hear of BuletCoLkToR ?

Pros: It's very comfortable on my left hand. I use it for all my FPS games and it works like a charm, I can also change the LCD and backlit keys to any color I want which is a nice add-on.

Cons: There is no row of keys above the the WASD keys such as for numbers or the F keys which would be really helpful for MMORPG's such as Aion or WoW. And there is no quick profile switch to switch between profiles unless you go into the program which is what you have to do.

5/5 - Just some small features that I would of liked to see but hey when they make a new one hopefully they'll have those features.

I've had this gamepad for about 3 weeks now and haven't had any problems with it at all. Easy installation, comfortable, and responsive. It's still a PC gamepad though, so the buttons suffer from a bit of "clickiness" as I call it, whereas a PS3 controller would have softer buttons. But that's knitpicking. Overall, much better than the wired USB Dualshock version which tends to break down on you for no reason every 6 months to a year. Probably the best PC gamepad you can get besides the Xbox360 controller.

this is the best pc game controller! It has a switch so if you want to use the old school directional pad instead of the left analog stick. Which I never use because it sucks, but for some reason some of my friends swear its better. it has great range for wireless. When it works it does so well. The construction and assembly is of high quality, and it looks like it can take some abuse from frustrated gamers.

On the downside, it is plagued by software issues and requires a master reset every couple of weeks. Luckily this is easily done, but still not something that should have to be done nearly as often. Also the battery life is suprisingly short (using Eneloop rechargable batteries).

I like force feedback when I play games I feel it adds more realism and that is the whole point. It also makes games more challenging once they are played out. This Joystick seems to apply more force than the standard 3d force feedback wingman model, and it has the scroll on the base and other features you can see listed in the specifications.

On the other hand, I know people who do not like force feedback at all and hate the joystick. So I think it is important to clarify the difference between a dislike with force feedback in general or a problem with this joystick in particular. Because I like Force Feedback in games, for me this joystick does everything it should and feels comfortable enough to use without being a distraction.

In conclusion, If you have never tried FF, I would buy a cheaper one and see if you like your games with it, but for those who are replacing or upgrading from another FF joystick, I think the improvements in this model are worth checking out.

I bought this stick with great expectations and was really disappointed. I'll try to be informative.
- Stick is too loose, even with power to the stick. Too much play before the stick actually registers movement.
- Tried increasing tension of stick with the utility and it doesn't help.
- The effects were solid, but once again making any accurate/fine movements with the stick is impossible.

Maybe this would be a good supplemental stick, I don't think it's fit for duty as your main gaming stick. I ended up with a Sidewinder Precision Pro 2. Now that's a good stick.

Sorry Logitech, I love your keyboard, but your joystick leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I picked up the stick to do a little flying in Battlefield 1942 (BF). Now, given that BF could use a little more spit and polish in the joystick support department, the WingMan Strike Force 3D didn't meet my expectations.

It installed quickly and easily, no problems there. When I finally got around to the calibration phase, the stick seemed a bit loose and would pull to the left. I thought I could compensate by trying to calibrate so it would read the pull as the center, right? Wrong. Once I fired up BF, I was constantly having to compensate by pulling the stick to the right, which would throw off my ability to turn right (imagine flying a two engine plane with one engine out).

Needless to say, it's going back to the store tomorrow morning. I'll opt for a non-force feedback system for now (alot of the BF players have been complaining about not getting their Force Feedback sticks to work). I've heard good things about Microsoft's Precision Pro (non-Force Feedback), and even Logitech's WingMan Extreme 3D (non-Force Feedback). Until I can sock away [$$$] for the Thrustmaster HOTAS Cougar, I'll keep trying to find a moderately priced stick that works well (I don't think that's too much to ask).

I suppose I should also note, that when I was out looking at sticks earlier in the day, I noticed that a few of the WingMan's rubber boots around the stick and the base were starting to crack.

Oh, one last thing, at the time of my writing this ..., Amazon has the wrong WingMan pictured. The Strike Force 3D has a wheel (similar to your mouse's wheel) off to the left side, with a button on both sides.

I purchased this controller to mainly use with MS Flight Simulator FSX. Before that I was using a Logitech wireless controller. I am very satisfied with this purchase. The product seems to be well made and the buttons are very easy to program to your preference. The flight controller feels very ergonomic and comfortable. Be aware that it is fairly large, but it works very well as a "lap" controller for those who do not have ample desk space. I recommend this controller to anyone who want a decent controller for under $50. Good buy!

Very good except:

* The throttle slides a little too easily.

* The stop in the middle of the throttle that separates military thrust from afterburner thrust should be 5/6 of the way to full throttle rather than 1/2. They tried to make a cool feature but it just gets in the way of normal flying.

* Significant increase in resistance towards edges of rotation (the farther you turn the stick, the harder it gets to turn, rather than having the same resistance).

* I don't get to use it as much as I'd like.

About a year ago, when I was thinking about buying the Extreme Digital 3D, I was a little hesitant about it. I have owned three Logitech joysticks prior to this one, and they have all stopped functioning properly in the same way at approximately the same time. I was worried that the same thing was going to happen to the Extreme Digital 3D. But with its good looks, affordability, and many buttons, I decided to just go ahead and get it. That was a big mistake.

The Extreme Digital 3D, like my other three Logitech joysticks, worked just fine for about a year. The controls were crisp and precise, the buttons responded instantly. Everything worked great. Then about a year later (two months before I wrote this review), calibration problems started showing up. In "Game Controllers", the crosshairs would bounce all over the place with the slightest nudge of the stick. It can sort of stay at the center if I'm not touching it. But in a game, when I have to keep my hand on the joystick at all times, the thing I'm controlling (car, plane) refuses to stay in the center, verging to the left mostly. I had to keep unplugging/replugging the joystick to refresh the calibration, but it loses it again after a few mintues. Oh, yeah. And one of the buttons (button 10) won't register anymore unless I press it really hard.

Look, stay away from this joystick. It WILL fail you in about a year. As for all these good reviews talking about how good this joystick is...ask yourself how long the reviewer has had this joystick. A few days? Please, only pay attention to the people who've had this joystick for a few months to a year. The calibration horror stories are true. They're there.

The fix posted by Lars actually worked. If you have an extra two hours to take the stick apart (he may have done it quicker), you can soak the pods in alcohol and get a fairly decent result. Mine works quite fine after following his advice. Hardest part, as usual, was getting it back together- very frustrating. But for the price, if you really like this controller, buy another one.

This stick used to work in prime condition. But after having it for 1.5 years its starting to show its true colors. If you read other reviews about the "Logitech WingMan Extreme: Digital 3D" Model Number J-ZA10, you will find one thing in common. It works like a charm for the first 3 months to a year and then shows a common and re-occurring symptom/problem/error. The sticks Y axis and Z axis will get more and more heavier on the left side until the stick is unplayable. I see this all over other review, It has happened to me, my brother, and my brothers friend who all have the exact make and model (the only variation being a minute color difference). An additional problem that I have encountered is the speed control will un-calibrate easily. I suggest that you get this joystick only if you accept that after prolonged use you will need a new one. If you think Microsoft's game controller recalibration software will do you any good it will only make things worse. I give it a 7/10 for features 9/10 for ease of use but a 2/10 for its reliability. However this joystick still beats Microsoft's Sidewinder into the dust.

The CALIBRATION PROBLEM can bee seen in ALL of LOGITECH'S JOYSTICK Products (as of 02/16/2005). My suggestion is look at Saitek or other joystick manufactures (besides Microsoft).

We all love the feel of the Logitech Sticks.

However it is 99% guaranteed that they will start to drift or jump at the slightest twist or touch.

For some reason the potentiometers gets dirty real fast.

Make sure that your USE 91% rubbing alcohol, all other things will ruin your stick.

Be careful with the potentiometers they are very fragile.

To fix the twist.

Take the handle apart and drop the twist pot into 91% rubbing alcohol and turn it a few times and dip it again and turn it.

Put it all back together.

Four screws and a clip.

The Base.

Take the handle apart.

Remove the twist spring.

Pop the lid with the imitation Allen-screws with a flathead screwdriver.

Unscrew the screws on the bottom of the base.

Remove the throttle.

Remove the pots for the x and y axis and give them the rubbing alcohol treatment.

This is the second Logitech WingMan Extreme Digital 3D Joystick that I have owned. The first lasted over a year and then some of the wires inside just snapped (opened it up after failure of some buttons). Looks like they used very brittle thin wires in the construction. However, over a year with my 4yo using it wasn't too bad so I replaced it with another in June. It just failed after 4 months. While the feel of it was great, it's reliability is a serious drawback. No caibration issues here.

I bought this because it's the archetypal flight sim controller set, and it is a solid piece of hardware. The only problem on the hardware end is that the suction cups are a little weak which doesn't really matter. My main problem is with the software for assigning macros. If you have vista, the manual is worthless. I've had it for about three weeks and I still can't apply the macros. Other than that, I'm satisfied.

"Finally a new HOTAS with FF stick...." 2009-10-24

I've been flight simming since there have been flight sims and have had various control sticks, yokes & rudder pedals over the years but this is the first force feedback unit I've tried.

I have to say that from the time I opened the box I've been impressed with this G940 setup. Throttle, Stick and Pedals all look and feel very nice. The stick and throttle units each weigh just under 3lbs, with the rudder pedals being almost 7lbs so everything wants to say put as you use them and I've not had them try to tip or move at all so far.

Was happy to see the rudder pedal unit, in addition to rubber feet, had panels of flip down "teeth" to grip carpeting, nice touch. (see my uploaded photos)

I'm still playing with some assigning and reassigning buttons to functions but have moved them around and find it to be easy to do once you get the idea of using the profile software that comes with the system. You can also assign keystroke combos to buttons to cover anything you've done with the keyboard before.

Love the fact that it has 3 "modes" and you can have same buttons and controls do different things on each mode setting. Covers many aircraft and preferences that way.

Latest driver download is a must (5.08 as of this date) and happy to say, Logitech is working on newer versions as they get feedback from end users. I'm sure at one point you'll be able to download a ready made profile for any sim you care to use and not have to do the setup yourself. Although, you can still modify anything you want within a profile.

One item that isn't ready to use yet is the color change feature on the 8 buttons on the throttle base, seems colors will be controlled by the flight sim software itself and not any Logitech/user settings, so as flight sim makers get onboard with the feature we'll have another great thing going. Note that the 5.08 download does have a "demo" program with it so you can see the buttons change color as a teaser for what's to come.

I've used this unit for many hours now and I'm really enjoying it, I had been using a yoke for some time so getting back to a stick is fun, but do hope that Logitech will be making a FF yoke to plug into this system in the near future.

Quite a treat to use controls that do not use pots and to know that there are no pots to wear out and cause spikes also.

Make sure you follow the PDF instructions that come with the latest driver package and you will be up and flying in short order..

I'm sure many have heard that the throttle will not give 100% or drop to idle, but it's just a matter of good calibration and changing the setting in your sim to be more sensitive than what you have been using with you older conrtols. For example, FSX default setting is 50% and needs to be 100% with no null zone.

I've also heard some talk about the stick unit getting warm/hot, but have found nothing to complain about and temperatures of the stick base are just fine.

I'm sure that as with anything that uses electric motors, the longer you run them the more heat they will generate, and also depends on if you are flying aerobatics nonstop or X-country flying, but I'm also very sure Logitech would not release a product with any kind of serious problem and I'm also sure they must have had them running for hours on end to test and research the flight system before shipping started.

I'd like to go on and on about how much I'm enjoying this hardware, but just talking about it makes me want to go fly now.......... see my uploaded photos with notes for more details if you need them.

I bought this from Amazon, took the super-saver shipping and received it two days later, on a Thursday evening. The packaging was more than adequate and the controller arrived without a scratch on it. I've now had an entire weekend to play with it so these are my thoughts.

I run Windows XP and, like other reviewers, I ignored the CD and downloaded the latest drivers from the Logitech website. The programming software works ok, but is nothing special. My previous stick was the Thrustmaster Cougar and the flexibility of the Foxy software is in a different world to the Logitech one. That being said, however, I didn't personally use the vast majority of those features and instead downloaded other peoples' profiles from the web. Hopefully, the community will also supply a large number of profiles for the G940.

There is a minor nuisance with the software in that you can't assign stick functions, program a profile or, in fact, start the software at all without the controller plugged in. This is inconvenient, but not a showstopper.

The stick itself feels good in the hand and has a slightly rubbery feel to it. It has a larger footprint on the desk than any other stick I've owned which, presumably, is to accommodate the force feedback motors. The micro-stick on the joystick that looks like a POV-hat isn't, and the castle switch is instead used as the POV. Not sure that I particularly like that choice but the micro-stick can be programmed to act as a normal hat if needed. I've found I need to keep the dead-zone on the microstick axes relatively high to prevent unwanted inputs in flight as the calibration seems to drift slightly.

The throttle unit also feels decent in the hand but isn't exactly going to win any beauty contests. The twin throttles separate easily and also recombine easily. The action is smooth and the friction adjustable. The lit buttons on the throttle base also function nicely as buttons and, I'm told, will function as working LED indicators in the future. One of my gripes with the throttle is about the R1 and R2 rotaries. It would have been nice to have had either a detent or at least some physical means of telling when they were centered without having to look at the painted line on them. But if you're picky about that you can always file a small groove into the center-point yourself.

The pedals are lovely. Nice and solid, and wide enough for me. I'm 6"3 and find them pretty comfortable. I've never actually used any other sim-pedals before but I fly little single engine planes in real life so have a pretty good idea how rudder pedals should feel.

I've been playing IL2 and DCS Black Shark and have been loving the force feedback. At the default settings the feedback is nice and strong, and the force can be ramped up or down in the Logitech software to suit your tastes. Using the trim function in Black Shark and having the stick actually stay in the trim position is fantastic and actually 'feeling' your warbird about to enter a stall in IL2 really helps with both my flying and my sense of immersion in the sim.

The 3-axis trims on the stick are great in IL2 and incredibly useful. Once again, no 'feelable' center position but you can't have everything.

One thing I did after a few minutes of using the stick was to put a little piece of tape over the "dead man's switch". This is a little sensor that detects whether the user's hands are on the stick or not and turns down the force feedback if necessary. It's a nice feature in theory but, especially in black shark with the stick in a trimmed position, I find the stick will jump around if I loosen my grip on the stick and no longer cover the sensor, so I took the decision to cover it up permanently. I just make sure to unplug the DC power to the stick if I leave it unattended.

Overall, very happy with the product with just a small wish-list for extra software functionality.

As a professional simulator engineer this system combines in one package the essential tools needed to fly fixed wing aircraft. The advertisements state that this system is good for all aircraft, I specialize in helicopters and would not use this system for them.

Compared to other systems the price is well below the combined price of the competition. Having used all of the competing products at one time or another, Logitech got it right with this system. I missed the force feedback on my old flight stick and was actively looking for a true dual throttle when I found this system. The quality of this product is equal to the competition which says a lot considering the price. The serial connectors used to connect the pedals and the throttle to the flight stick were the perfect choice. Some reviews addressed this issue wanting each one USB instead. I personally like this feature because if I wanted to extend the length of the cables it's easy to with a db9 extender cable (not a serial extender cable, some connections are missing), try doing that with USB. Besides some computers have limited USB ports and you need only one USB port for the entire system. At least this will save the cost a USB hub. The only draw back to this system is the price of the initial purchase. However, the professional flight simmer can not fly with only one or two devices. To really enjoy the sensation of flight you need these three components, so save your money to get this system.

Fit and finish is flawless. Has a really quality feel to it. The buttons, wheels, hats and switches all feel like good quality stuff. Everything fits in the box very compactly and I would guess that shipping damage may be a frequent complaint.

Everything "feels" like premium grade. I really like the rudder pedals which I was worried would be weak. They are very sturdy. Nothing wrong with the external design I can see.

Set-up was exactly as I expected. I ignored the CD that came with it and got the newest driver from the Logitech. I have the 64bit Version of Vista Ultimate. I experienced no problems with set-up. I was flying IL-2 within 30 minutes of the delivery of the thing. Standard HOTAS skills apply. Key mapping is tedious. You will have to map all games and sims. Force feedback works with gusto on the calibration app. It is pretty mild in game so far. I don't regret the purchase. I think this is an excellent first HOTAS/Pedals set. If anything changes in my opinion I will edit my review. Feel free to ask specific questions in comments.

Cons so far: I can't seem to get enough travel with the rudder to match my old controller. I know It's a setting I am not seeing. Other than that, in just a few hours, I can't find anything to complain about.

Note I purchased my set on Amazon. You know I have one. I have no agenda other than sharing info.

I am having a problem with the stick conflicting "in game" with my Microsoft sidewinder X6 keyboard. Chat is garbled.Macros will not work properly and it is a serious annoyance. The problem doesn't carry to a Saitek keyboard I have but I like my sidewinder. I have not found a workaround for this. I am also not likeing the .XML format for the HOTAS files.

I have owned a CH Fighterstick, Throttle, and Pedals for one year and I am now going to throw them out if I cannot sell them, because after using the G940 for a week I WILL NEVER GO BACK to CH!

The G940 stick is 10 times better than the CH fighterstick and the forcefeed back alone is worth the price of admission. I play IL2-1946 and Over Flanders Field and the force feedback is top notch! People boast that the CHs are the most accurate sticks you can buy, well this is no longer true.

The G940 throttle is so much better than the CH Throttle as well. It has a more natural curve of motion, the buttons and dials are better layed out and it is way more comfortable to use.

The G940 pedals are also ten times better than the ch pedals. The g940s are about an inch wider and use a more natural & realistic rocker range of motion than the CHs gimped forced linear range of motion.

In short, the CH Products feel like toys compared to the G940. If you like simulators these are a must buy!

Does anybody want to buy a used CH HOTAS setup that is in excellent condition?

As I said, these are the best of the best (unless you spend $20,000 on a professional military grade HOTAS setup) and a must buy if you enjoy playing flight sims. These are to the flying games what the G27 is to the racing games...

A while back I finally had to dump my old Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback joystick. Not because the stick itself was bad but because I no longer had a working game port. The current generation of Sidewinders are a pale memory of the older models so I decided to give Logitech a try.

The force feedback on this joystick is great. It really pulls you into the game and gives you a feel for the action. The buttons are well places and very responsive. The placement of the throttle is a godsend. So many companies put the throttle in an out of the way area but in sim games like MechWarrior you need instant access to the throttle.

The downside of this stick is its sensitivity. Though I have gotten used to it the way the stick reacts takes away a bit of the enjoyment in games. Many times I find myself turning off the force feedback so I have better control, but then what was the purpose of this purchase?

If you need the sensitivity, get this stick. However most people should look elsewhere.

This joystick was my first (and last from Logitech).

I cannot recommend this Product for the following reasons:

1) Mechanical connection for Force Feed-back is Intermitant,as best.

2) "button 11" works when it wants to.

3) Gives false inputs until it warms up by hand.

4) Force sensitivity cannot be calibrated (none to'stirring gravel')

5) Cannot cancel out 'rudder shimmy'

PROS:

1) solid,sturdy base.

2) It hasn't caught fire yet.

I've had this stick for a while now (a couple of years I guess); it's been excellent. Playing CFS3, Heroes of the Pacific for the most part. Hadn't played much for a while until recently, and now I come back to it it seems that it's no longer smooth (hence the missing star); this also makes it hard to keep it nicely centred. I guess it's just seizing up from not being used enough ;-)

I can't begin to understand how some of the others here are saying there's not enough feedback - could be that they haven't got it set up right (feedback level is customisable), that Logitech have come up with the most variable manufacturing process in history, or that those complaining of this are insensitive brutes. Whatever, it's been perfect for me - until it's begun to get sticky as mentioned above. Still perfectly usable with force feedback turned off (or no power to the stick) though.

Seeing the poor reviews here has actually prompted me to do one for the first time, I've liked my stick that much :-)

I have been gaming for a long time now, and this by far is the worst joystick i have ever used. The force feedback on this joystick is nothing. If you are thinking of getting this, DON'T!!! When i read the reviews, i thought these people knew what they were talking about. They obviosly didn't. When i loaded the software into my computer, (I'm running off of vista) and tested it out, i could barely feel anything. I used to have a Microsoft Sidewinder with force feedback, and that was amazing. It was the best joystick i ever had. The pro force was not well made. when i pluged the powerpack in, it would not stay in the outlet because it was so loose. And when i pluged the other end into the joystick, it kept falling out too. The reciever was too big. The sensitvity was way too high. There was no dead zone at all. And when i tried to calibrate it, it didn't do anything. So to sum this all up,

Force feedback resistence: 0

I would not recamend this product to anyone.

This joystick is awesome, surpassed my expectations thus far. The 'feel' is perfect, like my old Wingman Extreme 3D. I gave it 4 of 5 stars b/c that thumb button on the side is kind of awkward for me as a missile button. That's more of a personal preference, but still, it's awkward for me.

I was unsure to make this purchase b/c of some of the reviews I read. But after purchasing this product my conclusion of those poor reviewers are -they're stupid. lol. First paper in the box is labeled IMPORTANT: READ THIS FIRST! It describes the complexities of the wireless 2.4GHz system. If you have a lot of wireless devices there may be interference where some actions become erratic or have loss of signal. Other things that can interfere with the system are cell phones, A/V receivers, wireless networks. I have my cell phone and wireless router 2 feet from the joystick receiver w/ no problems. People reviewing say, 'even with the joystick right next to the receiver it acts erratic.' WELL... In the IMPORTANT paper, its first troubleshoot says to move the joystick and receiver FURTHER apart if you are experiencing problems. *Sigh* Granted I haven't had this joystick long, but sheesh it has a year warranty either way. It's worth the buy, especially if you are wanting to go cordless.

This product went into service here about a month ago over here. Initially there was some confusion as to how the unit should work. A little tap on the face-button of the wireless receiver woke the unit up and brought everything to life. For some reason no mention of this step was made obvious in the joystick instructions. It has been smooth sailing ever since ! Evidently five years production has allowed the manufacturer to work out any previous bugs, that we may not be aware of.

I have used this joystick on my gaming computer and it is one of the best. I really like that it is cordless, we certainly don't need more cords running here and there. It takes 3 AA batteries and they seem to last a fair amount of time. If you're looking for a nice joystick, this is one I would recommend without reservation. BTW, Windows Vista has no problem finding the drivers and installs them automatically and they are more up to date than the ones on the CD.

"Maybe I got a Lemon!?" 2009-09-12

Let me begin by saying I dislike negative feedback but in this case it is warranted. I purchased the control for use with Microsoft's flight simulator which I've always enjoyed using in the past and as a licensed pilot I can say it was realistic enough to be useful = particularly in instrument flights.

However I cannot us the program because the Logitech Attack 3 Joystick continuously malfunctions. I run the calibration and all seems OK - but when I try to actually use it the control is so far out of calibration that if I ever relax the control or let go of it - the airplane immediately executed a diving roll to the right - goes inverted and crashes.

The unit shipped without a CD (not even sure it is supposed to have one) and there was no manual. For me it is a frustration and a complete waste of money - Good luck with your - maybe mine is just a lemon!? I say this as I had one that worked previously - just can't remember the model I had.

For many years of my PC Gaming life, I actually used the Microsoft Sidewinder 3D Pro, a joystick that not only had it all by itself, it could emulate older Thrustmaster and Flightstick joysticks for games that wouldn't recognize a Sidewinder due to age.

Unfortunately, times have changes and not only are there no new drivers for the Sidewinder, game ports have gone the way of the floppy drive. I needed to find a replacement on a budget.

And then by luck, I saw this. For a mere 20 dollars, you get a basic, yet good joystick. It comes with throttle control and 12 programmable buttons, it is a USB device that easily plugs-and-plays with no need for installation, and it is comfortable support for both right and left-handed people. What are the catches? There is no 'Hat' control, a rocking button usually at the top of the stick which typically controls one's views in a flight game/simulator and unlike many more advanced joysticks, you cannot 'turn' the stick, meaning you cannot do rolls or turns-on-dime easily.

Despite these catches, the joystick is still a great value. For 20 dollars you get a solid joystick that can easily fulfill your gaming needs and of course, the legendary durability and reliability of a Logitech product.

If you're looking for a more advanced stick or something to better suit a flight simulator, I recommend looking up Logitech's other sticks such as the Extreme 3D Pro or even the Flight System G940. Otherwise, this truly is a good joystick, it will bring you joy again when you play your classic flight/space game.

I have had one for 4 years and have used it on Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 AND X, Il-2 1946, Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator,Star Wars Battlefront 1&2, and Aliens vs. Predator 2. On all of the games the joystick performs flawlessly with no interface problems and exceptional smoothness. On all flight simulation games this joystick is almost perfect, the only flaw being the lack of a hat switch. But the 12 programmable buttons pretty much compensate for all problems, because you can still use the numpad for view. On first and third person shooters, this joystick has more than enough buttons for the jobs at hand, and all of the main buttons are within an inch of each other at the top of the grip. The ergonomics on this joystick are as good as or better than some of the grips molded to follow the contours of the hand. Also, because of the symmetrical design, it can be used comfortably with either hand for quite a period of time. My personal record was 5 hours using this joystick nonstop, and when I finished, there was no soreness or blistering.(For the record and all of you folks thinking I'm lying and\or crazy, I fly HARD!) Also, there is a large amount of punishment that the Attack 3 can withstand. Mine has been dropped from at least 2 feet uncountable times, and it still works perfectly. Perhaps one of the best features is the fact that this joystick is plug-and-play for ALL operating systems. No, not just Windows. This Works flawlessly on every Mac OS I have ever tried it on, from 9.0 to X. It also works on anything between Windows 98 through Vista without any software installation. All in all, there is nothing that this joystick can't excell at, and for the price it goes for, it's amazing that more people haven't heard about it. This joystick is quite possibly the best money you're ever going to spend, and it proves why it's called a JOYstick.

I just figured out how to calibrate this joystick. I am using Windows XP. I assume it will work with all Windows operarting systems though.

Go to Control Panel, click on "Game Controllers", or however you get to your joystick settings. Hold down the "Ctrl" (control key) and the "Shift" key together - at the same time, THEN click your mouse on the "Properties". This should take you to a different calibration screen that you would get to without holding the two keys together. IMPORTANT - Click on the "Test" tab first. If you go to the settings tab first, it likely will not work. Without doing anything else after clicking on the "Test" tab, next click on the "Settings" tab. Then click on the "Calibrate" button below. Click "next". Click the thumb button on the left side of the joystick which should bring you to another screen. Then follow the prompts......

* On the "axis calibration", move your joystick in full circles, making sure the "+" symbol moves around the far margins of the square. After a few complete circles, click the "next" button with your mouse.

* On the next screen, click the left button on the joystick again, which should bring you to the next screen. Move the throttle lever back and forth a few times. Then click "next" again.

* On the "Z rotation screen", move the joystick to the left and right (rotate it) a few times. Then click "next" and then "finish" then "ok". Thats it. It should be calibrated now. Hope this helps everyone with problems.

This is the biggest farce from Logitech. Apple OS 9 requires an inputsprocket or config file for this joystick. Logitech does not have one. Contact Logitech support to get this to work and they tell me that they do not support Apple OS anything, that the USB and joystick are "Mac Compatible" which is like saying that you can use a tennis ball to play golf if you wanted.

There is no support for this. There are no Mac users that have ever got this to work without dumping time and $ into configuring a third party app to interface with this. I have returned mine and am looking into something that actually does work with Apple OS (X or 9)

I bought this because I was stuck on a level playing Hawx. I just couldn't react fast enough with the keyboard. Boy what a difference it made! I beat the level on the first try. Works great with my Vista 64 bit. However I did notice some sort of a mechanical problem after playing with it for a month. It makes a clicking noise after a while. Mostly due to my fault. I think I was a bit too harsh with it. But overall if you are gentle with it I think it is a great hardware. I know many people have complained about some calibration issues. But I haven't noticed it. Again I am not a hardcore flight simulator fanatic. If you are like me who just want to shoot some enemy planes this is the joystick for you.

I've had this joystick now for about 4 years. And this is four years of intense use (Microsoft Flight simulator, il2, Falcon 4.0 AF and more). It survived being crushed under heavy bags while moving to another house when it was 3 years old. Its fell down a couple times. And only now after 4 and a half years (which is really old age in joystick years) is it showing signs of its age. Two buttons on the bottom plate have stopped working. If I plug it into usb port 2 it will behave perfectly but in usb port 1 the both axis and twist are ultra sensitive. So your aircraft will make alot of small unwanted movements. So here I am buying another one. Not that I absolutely need one but the current one will make a good backup. Buy it!! lol seriously you wont regret it.
